Description

"They brand the Taft managers and Taft himself as having deliberately taken part in that theft"

TLS, one page, 7.75 x 9.5, The Outlook letterhead, August 20, 1912. Letter to G. B. Daniels of the Oakland Enquirer, in part: "That is a mighty nice letter of yours and I thoroughly appreciate it. Believe me, my dear sir, there has been no man's support that I have valued more than yours. I do not like to be overhopeful, but we really are getting things going pretty well in the East, and there is at least a fair chance that we shall follow California's example. I value the clippings you sent me and I shall see if The Outlook can publish them. It seems to me that it ought to do so. They brand the Taft managers and Taft himself as having deliberately taken part in that theft." Roosevelt makes a handwritten correction to the text. In fine condition, with pin holes to the upper left corner. Accompanied by a two-page retained carbon copy of Daniels's letter to Roosevelt.
