TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Metropolitan letterhead, November 22, 1916. Letter to Gilbert B. Daniels of the Oakland Enquirer, in full: "That's a mighty nice letter of yours and I appreciate it to the full. I am afraid that you have put the case correctly. As for the attack on Johnson, I of course know that it is unjust and that he did everything possible for Hughes. I hear this on all sides. Will you give my warm regards to your son and to your daughters? I wish I could see you and all your family!" Roosevelt makes a few handwritten corrections to the text. In fine condition, with a couple of small stains. Accompanied by a carbon copy of Daniels's three-page letter to Roosevelt, concerning the state of politics on the west coast.
