Description

"I'm comin to New York to do Carnegie Hall with Pete Seeger"

ALS signed "Don," three pages both sides, postmarked at London, August 20, 1965. Letter to Tony Glover, in part: "I got your love deed I got a contact high. Riding in a train thru the green places I passed a brick factory made of bricks. We're pullin into we're here: Peterborough. Everythin' is so cool with me on things. I'm comin to New York to do Carnegie Hall with Pete Seeger in November. I'll come an' see you for sure. I'm completely agreed on your words on protest things—I've been with this thing (or it with me) since I was 14—it came thru my changes with me—it gets heavier—I turn people on with it remaining very a humble cat with a very dangerous vulnerable amount of love. I've talked to many of the sunshine people. Some ride the rocking horse (too many) I've seen them settle in fucked up bitter scenes. 'They say that love is like a child upon a rocking horse of polka dot, the color black, that rides thru a forest of dreams an' laughs at the evils that cannot be seen.' (Harvest your thoughts of love) Bert Jansch. Derroll Adams held me with everything he could grip me with. I held him with strange old hands whilst we waited for blood in his puke. He loves so much his eyes are scars. I've seen him run like a kid in a cowboy hat thru rained on grass his scotch bottle not long scored glinting, a highly polished chain." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.

From the Tony Glover Collection.
