Rare letter from the famed Civil War aeronaut

American balloonist (1832-1913) whose Union balloon corps tracked enemy movements, known as the father of military aerial reconnaissance in the United States. ALS signed “T. S. C. Lowe,” one page, 8.25 x 10.75, Office of Lowe's Ice and Refrigerating Works letterhead, August 23, 1869. Letter to Henry Ewing, in part: "Yours of the 11th is just received having myself been absent in Texas & through the south. I cannot now appoint a time to meet you in New York as I shall for a short time be considerably out of the city. The only certain time I can appoint is the 1st & 2nd of Sept, but anything by mail will reach me at once if addressed to me at Box 6209 New York Post Office. I expect to be at the Continental Hotel Philadelphia to meet my brother from the west on the 28th this month." In fine condition.
