Description
Chinese revolutionary (1866-1925) who helped to overthrow the centuries-old Qing Dynasty in 1911 to become the first president of the Republic of China. Rare matte-finish 3.5 x 5 oval portrait of the Chinese leader by K. T. Thompson, affixed to its original 4.75 x 7.75 studio mount, signed and inscribed in ink, "To Mr. G. E. Anderson, With compliments of Sun Yat-sen, June 17, 1912.” In very good to fine condition, with scattered spotting and silvering to the image, and light staining and soiling to the mount. As a revered political leader of the 20th century and the key figure in establishing the modern Chinese state, Sun Yat-sen represents one of the most highly sought-after autographs worldwide. Signed photographs are excessively rare, with this representing only the fifth we have ever offered.
