Description

Two ALSs, each one page, 5 x 7.75, 1890 and 1894. Both to his friend "Warren" in London. The first, in full: "I thank you for your kind note and am particularly grateful for the words of sympathy contained therein. Mrs. Field has not yet come from Germany, but that shall not prevent me from running in upon you in quite an informal way. Although I am by no means a Sanders yet, I have established more friendly relations with my enemy within me and therefore I am better prepared to conduct myself as a free moral and social agent." The second, in full: "My friend, Charles S. Wells, goes to London for an indefinite period and he will do library work while there. Your friendship will be much to him and I ask that you kindly bestow it upon him, for he is worthy of the favor of our kind of people." In fine condition.
