Description

TLS signed “F. Ziegfeld,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Ziegfeld Theatre letterhead, April 5, 1927. Interesting letter to Bertram Harrison at the Eltinge Theatre, concerning a lawsuit due to the delay in the book of 'Betsey.' In part: "You will remember all your conversations with me regarding the book of 'Betsey,' and also that the book was not delivered on time and only was given to you about ten days before the opening, and how you came up to me with it, and said it was impossible, and I should not produce it. Your contention was quite right, and I should not have done it. You will also recall how I had to call in Wm. Anthony McGuire to see if he could make a show out of it. I should have listened to you at the start, and not produced it at all. Friedman and Caesar, as you no doubt know, have started a suit against me, and I would appreciate it if you would…make out an affidavit to the effect of what I have stated above, how the authors were entirely to blame, of their failure to deliver the book on time, their failure to be present at rehearsals, leaving to help Frazee with his show on the road, and that you did not have the material to rehearse with, also that you have been paid in full…All we have to do is to tell the truth, to win the case." In fine condition, with scattered light creasing.
