Letter to his Supreme Court law clerk, Harvey W. Jacob, in full: "My Asthma is increasing and Mrs. L. and I will leave from the Hotel about Monday. May wish to stop over at W[ashington] to consult with Ruffin or Dr. Hinde. Locate them for me at their present address and when likely to return to Washington. I may go to see one or other if they are accessible. Do this today & write at once." Lurton adds a brief postscript: "Please deposit enclosed checks to my account." In fine condition. Signed handwritten letters from Lurton during his tenure as a U.S. Supreme Court justice are virtually nonexistent.
