Description

In Rome to shoot Journey to Italy: "There might be some retakes and then the dubbing in Italian which I'll do myself"

TLS, one page, 7 x 11, May 2, 1953. Letter to Miss Viola Leone in New York, written from "Bruno Buozzi 62, Rome," in part: "You have to excuse this awful delay in writing and thanking you for Robertino's sweet birthday gift. We have been on location with the new picture for 2 and a half months. Then when we came back here we moved to a new apartment. I have had so much to do that all letters had to wait. The little ring was very cute and I am sure one day he'll love it…Our picture 'Trip to Italy' is finished. There might be some retakes and then the dubbing in Italian which I'll do myself. After that we all move to the country for the Summer. It is very warm already in Rome." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, a gorgeous unsigned 1945 RKO promo photo, and an unsigned program for Joan of Arc. Written and directed by Bergman's husband Roberto Rossellini, Journey to Italy was released in 1954 and received poorly by critics and audiences. Today, it is widely considered to be Rossellini's masterpiece and a landmark piece of cinema.
