Description

Thrice-signed ALS signed “Melvin,” one page, 8 x 10.5, May 3, 1944. Letter to his wife Rosanne, in full: "This will be a note to tell you I am thinking about you. I am tired tonight so will write you and then go to bed and read another O. Henry story from the book you sent me and then try to go to sleep. I wrote you a V mail letter today. I hope you and the two little boys will not touch that poison oak. Be sure to be careful. Leon had a letter from a friend which said they had heard you had been sick and that the little boys had too. The letter was dated April four. It happened that I had just received your letter of April twenty four which said you all were in splendid health. I was glad. Tell the two little boys I love them and miss them all the time. I miss you more than you will ever know. I am so lost away from you. I adore you." Purvis adds his address above, which incorporates his signature, "Lt. Col. Melvin Purvis," and then, inexplicably, signs again to the immediate left, "Melvin Purvis." Also included is the original mailing envelope addressed by Purvis, which bears instances of his signature an additional three more times. The envelope is encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder. In overall fine condition. A warm letter from husband to wife, which contains an impressive six Purvis autographs! Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
