Handwritten lyrics in pencil for "Slowly Candle Burns" by Prince, unsigned, one page, 8.5 x 11, no date (circa mid-1995). The lyrics read, in full: "Like candle slowly burning… / I can feel my world unravel / Hemisphere upon hemisphere / lie beneath my sole / My enemies kept it turning / But now they pound the gavel / And judging me accordingly / I know, I know / Everybody keeps trying 2 break my heart / Everybody cept 4 me [eye] just want a chance to play the part—the part of someone truly free / Burning slowly candle / handle careless they did / Merrily down 3 heartbreak boulevards / Like fashion statements they lie / ‘U be lookin’ so good 2night kid.’ / [eye] do my best to party…it's just that / everybody keeps trying 2 break my heart / Slowly candle burns / where they learn hypnosis— / How’d they keep me under 4 so long / Break the bread [eye] earn just keep me far from closest / [eye] need their kind 2 illustrate what's wrong / they keep trying but they’ll never break my heart / No, no / They won’t ever break my heart.” In fine condition. Previously titled as 'Slowly Candle Burns,' 'Slave' is the first track on the third disc of Prince's 19th album Emancipation. Eleven months before the album's release, 'Slave' was given out as a cassette single at a Paisley Park Studios show on December 9, 1995, the same show where the Crystal Ball version of Days of Wild was recorded and the studio version of One Of Us was premiered.
