Description

Collection of twenty unstruck matchbooks associated with Dwight D. Eisenhower, including: eighteen white matchbooks featuring the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) coat of arms on one side, imprinted with his name in gold, "Dwight D. Eisenhower," and red five-star general insignia on the other; one green matchbook for Lena's sandwich shop in Abilene, Kansas, billing the town as "President Eisenhower's Boyhood Home" on the back; and one for the 'On the Square' restaurants in Gettysburg (where Eisenhower retired), depicting Abe Lincoln on the reverse. Also includes a bold ink signature, "Dwight D. Eisenhower," on an off-white 4 x 1.25 slip clipped from a letter. In overall fine condition. Accompanied by the original matchbox for the SHAPE books, produced by the Universal Match Corp. of St. Louis. From the collection of Brigadier General Robert L. Schulz, longtime military aide to Dwight D. Eisenhower.
