Description

Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and journalist (1914-1993) considered one of the earliest practitioners of 'New Journalism.' Three items: an ALS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, Turkey Hill Road letterhead, May 24, 1950, addressed to Ken Browne, in part: "Many thanks for your kind note of mid-March. I'm sorry I've been so long about answering it, but I've been out of the country and just got back and found it here. I'm sorry, too, that I haven't a photograph to send you. For some reason, I just don't keep pictures of myself"; a TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, Turkey Hill Road letterhead, April 8, 1952, also addressed to Browne: "I've finally dug up, to reward your patience and persistence in writing to ask me for it, a photograph. It's pretty awful, but all I could find. Good luck to you"; and a vintage glossy 3.5 x 4 half-length photo of Hersey in a suit, signed and inscribed in blue ink, "For Mr. and Mrs. Ken Browne, with all good wishes, John Hersey." In overall very good to fine condition, with paperclip impressions to both the letters and the photo.
