Description

"To have lasting importance, a work must speak to the human heart"

Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and journalist (1914-1993) considered one of the earliest practitioners of 'New Journalism.' ALS, one page, 6.25 x 7, personal letterhead, January 24, 1979. Letter to "Mr. Norbutt," in full: "To have lasting importance, a work must speak to the human heart and must deal with the enduring verities: with love and compassion and courage, with envy and lust and covetousness, and all the other qualities and motives that have moved men's hearts forever, and always will. There is no greater blessing than to be given the gifts of making things: there's lots of pain in the creative life, but no life is more rewarding." In fine condition.
