Description

British poet (1830-1894) who wrote a variety of romantic, devotional, and children's poems. ALS signed “Christina G. Rossetti,” one page both sides, 7 x 4.5, no date. Letter to her brother, the writer and critic William Michael Rossetti, in part: "The following I quote from one of Aunt Charlotte's letters written before Uncle Henry's death:—'Neatly put away in different receptacles I have found £16.19.0…the greater part of the money I found in a bag with a paper on wh: was written for the poor and such purposes.'—I hope, as you seem to know the precise sum in question, this note will suffice. I am very sorry about the soup; but Mr. Stewart is positive for the present, tho' he thinks that in two or three days it may become available. This morning I hope I may say that he finds Aunt Charlotte a degree better; but he lays great stress on rallying her strength if possible, and now he is trying a fresh prescription with quinine. The trained nurse has arrived. Do you know anything of the key of the tin box from Cheltenham? Of 3 keys apparently in question not one acts on its lock." In fine condition, with short splits to the ends of the central vertical fold.
