Circa 1970s ballpoint signature, "Jesse Owens,” on an off-white 7.5 x 10.75 sheet bearing an ownership notation and much earlier 1940 date. In very good to fine condition, with slightly irregular overall toning. Owens wowed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, taking home gold medals in the men's 100 meters sprint, 200 meters sprint, long jump, and 4 × 100 meter relay. He was the most successful athlete at the Games and, as a black man, was credited with 'single-handedly crushing Hitler's myth of Aryan supremacy.'
