Newfoundland-American Arctic explorer (1875-1946) known for his exploits in the doomed Karluk Expedition that saved the lives of most of its stranded participants, for rescuing the members of Donald MacMillan's ill-fated Crocker Land Expedition, and for commanding the schooner Effie M. Morrissey. Two items: a vintage glossy 8 x 10 head-and-shoulders portrait of Bartlett, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "To Owen E. Dunlap, Jr., With Kindest Regards, Sincerely, Bob Bartlett"; and an ALS signed "Bob Bartlett," one page, 6 x 9.25, Murray Hill Hotel letterhead, November 18, [1936], in part: "Boy! You did me a great favour in that Radio Sunday New York Times section. You certainly did play the 'Morrisey' and myself in good shape. Mr. Cortland Smith, President of Pathe News, telephoned me Sunday; and later sent me the Radio section by you; underlining your find words." In overall fine condition, with a light paperclip impression to the top edge, and a light vertical stain touching Bartlett's left eye. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope for the letter, addressed in Bartlett's hand and signed in the return address area, "Bob Bartlett."
