Description

Fascinating collection of CBS Records and A & R Recording paperwork related to the 1971 release of Farther Along, the eleventh album by the Byrds, consisting of over 20 documents dated between May 1971 and April 1972, including: session data sheets, artist job sheets, memorandums, shipping receipts, transport arrival and export sheets, recording receipts and authorizations, and various handwritten notes. Highlights include: a CBS memorandum dated September 29, 1971, listing the working song titles and album title, which was then known as "Homespun"; session data sheets for the songs 'Bugler,' 'Tiffany Queen,' 'Born to Rock and Roll,' and 'Drivin' Wheel'; a schedule request for the single release of 'America's Great National Pastime / Farther Along'; and a later memorandum, dated October 7, 1971, making note of additional credits for "the new Byrds album, which has been firmly titled 'Farther Along.'" Includes the original manila office folder. In overall fine condition. Farther Along was the last studio album to feature the lineup of Roger McGuinn, Clarence White, Skip Battin, and Gene Parsons, however, the band did record a handful of new songs during 1972, including 'Lost My Drivin' Wheel' and 'Born to Rock and Roll,' The latter was intended for a proposed single release, most likely with 'Lost My Drivin' Wheel' as the B-side, but ultimately the single never came to fruition.
