Description

American civil engineer (1837-1926) best known for supervising the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge, which was initially designed by his father John A. Roebling. Scarce ALS signed “W. A. R.,” one page, 5 x 6.75, 191 West State Street, Trenton, New Jersey letterhead, January 20, 1914. In part: "I have returned from N. Y. alive & am now ready to finish the Income tax when you come over. It may take you a day or two…from your nervous excitements. At our meeting there was the usual amt. of good & bad news. The Pacific coast is doing badly—hardly paying expenses—a change of bosses is imperative out there. They must stop bragging of how rich the Roeblings are, and sell rope above cost in place of giving it away. Prices are too low. They all have fine stores full of stock they don't sell. Mooney represents a fine building & stock amounting to 1,500,000, and the profits warrant nothing like it. As soon as profits become minus they eat you up in short order." In fine condition, with a thin strip of toning along the left edge.
