Formalizing the retirement of famed Pittsburgh skipper Fred Clarke

Early baseball executive (1865-1932) who owned the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1900 until his death, often credited with the creation of the modern baseball World Series. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008 following his election by the Veterans Committee. TLS, one page, 8 x 10.75, personal Pittsburgh Athletic Company letterhead, October 4, 1915. Letter to Fred C. Clarke, manager of the Pittsburgh Baseball Club, in full: "As per your request, I am giving you this letter as a formal notification of your release from the managership of the Pittsburgh Baseball Club, effective herewith—the close of the 1915 season. Upon this parting of the way, after more than twenty years association in the baseball world, I want to thank you for the hearty and efficient service you have always given me in the work; and my hope is that in the taking up of your own personal affairs from this on, that you will be just as successful as you have been in baseball. Wishing you and yours a long and happy life." In fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA.
