The first presidential memorial library, completed at the Lawnfield estate in Ohio by First Lady Lucretia Garfield four years after her husband’s assassination, houses almost 3,000 books that were used and treasured by the 20th president. More than two decades ago, several dozen of his books were deaccessioned, with this personal volume among them. This book in particular offers some insight into Garfield's religious beliefs—he had been baptized into the Disciples of Christ in 1850.
