Very rare original Apple Records 1968 US press kit, used to introduce the new record label to the United States, highlighting their first four artists: the Beatles, Jackie Lomax, Mary Hopkin, and the Black Dyke Mills Brass Band. The official “Apple” folder contains four 45 rpm discs with sleeves, with corresponding sets of four of press photos, booklets, and info sheets. The 45 rpm singles included are: ‘Hey Jude / Revolution’ by the Beatles; ‘Sour Milk Sea / The Eagle Laughs at You’ by Jackie Lomax; ‘Those Were The Days / Turn, Turn, Turn’ by Mary Hopkin; and ’Thingumybob / Yellow Submarine’ by the Black Dyke Mills Brass Band. The press photos show each artist (the Beatles are portrayed as their Yellow Submarine cartoons), the booklets give background information on the artists, and the info sheets provide reviews by English publicist Derek Taylor. In fine condition, with some light creasing to the white folder and some partial splitting to edges of the record sleeves. On August 22, 1968, these press kits were sent out to radio station program directors across the United States, serving as an introduction to the Beatles’ important new project—Apple Records. The highlight of the set is the rare first Los Angeles pressing of the 'Hey Jude' single, packaged in a sleeve reading “The Beatles on Apple.” An absolutely spectacular surviving example of this significant introductory press kit.
