Description

The Versace Experience artwork mockup and unreleased 'The Undertaker' CD

Rare in-house mockup artwork for The Versace Experience (Prelude to Gold) CD package from circa 1995, consisting of the printed mockup in a CD jewel case with mockup CD; the locked contents of the disc feature the unreleased one-take Prince album 'The Undertaker,' a recording intended to be included in a 1994 issue of Guitar World magazine, but was ultimately blocked by Warner Bros. after manufacturing, with all finished copies coated with a plastic covering that rendered them unplayable. The front cover artwork features Prince's symbol against a unique Aztec-inspired circular design, and the back cover lists the album's 15 songs, as well as "Special Thanks 2 Versace, Welcome 2 The Dawn" and "4 promotional use only-not 4 sale" printed along the bottom. The track listing: 1. Pussy Control (Club Mix-Edit), 2. Shhh (X-cerpt), 3. Get Wild In The House, 4. {Eye] Hate U (Remix), 5. 319 (X-cerpt), 6. Shy (X-cerpt), 7. Billy Jack Bitch, 8. Sonny T. (X-cerpt), 9. Rootie Kazootie (Edit), 10. Chatounette Controle, 11. Pussy Control (Control Tempo-Edit), 12. Kamasutra Overture # 5, 13. Free The Music, 14. Segue, and 15. Gold (X-cerpt). In fine condition. From the collection of artist/art director Michael Van Huffel and accompanied by a letter of provenance. Consignor notes that locked 'The Undertaker' CDs were recycled and used for mockups by the art production team, and that the CDs, which are quite rare unto themselves, are capable of being unlocked for playing by removing the thin film from the disc. The Versace Experience (Prelude 2 Gold) was a promotional cassette of previously unreleased material by Prince, then identified by his 'love symbol,' that was presented to attendees of the Versace collection of Paris Fashion Week in early July 1995. Used as a promotional tool for Prince's upcoming album, The Gold Experience, the cassette also contained tracks from other planned projects, including The New Power Generation's second album Exodus, Madhouse's third album 24 (which was never released), and The NPG Orchestra's Kamasutra.
