War-dated correspondence from Vietnam’s last Queen Mother

Wife of Emperor Khai Dinh and mother of Bao Dai who was the last ‘Queen Mother’ of Vietnam (1890–1980). TLS in Vietnamese, one page, 8.25 x 10.5, September 8, 1972. Letter to Mr. Richard Peau of Germany, translated in part: “I send you my royal autographed photo for your collections in the incoming exhibition. Vietnam—our country is formerly under the monarchy since ancient times, at less war sword, less killing. The Vietnamese live and work in peace and contentment. Today, living through the bombs of war, I, a 84 year - old—Queen mother, with my righteousness and generosity always pray in all days and nights for Vietnamese people a peaceful life. Recently, some countries such as United States, Germany, and the famous writer, political organization, religious associations were in favor of sending the letter to pray for our Vietnam quickly stop living through the bombs. I appreciate your loving heart and am happy to exchange my ideas with you.” In fine condition. Brimming with desirable content, this letter was composed as the Vietnam War neared its end.
