Description

British author and scholar (1892–1973) whose Lord of the Rings trilogy became one of the towering classics of fantasy literature and inspired a series of successful and wildly popular films. TLS, one page, 5.25 x 7, personal letterhead, October 12, 1966. A letter of thanks to a fan. After signing, Tolkien adds in his distinctive calligraphic hand, “If you use one of the modern steel bows, you should be developing a good torso!” Fans of Tolkien’s work will note that “steel bows” were used by the Numenor race in Lord of the Rings.
