Description

Popular Swedish painter and illustrator (1853–1919). Rare ALS in French, one page, 4.5 x 7, May 14, 1893, Marstrand, Sweden. Letter to the greatest French theatrical actor of his generation, Benoît-Constant Coquelin, in full (translated): “I understand this very well! I will meet the deadline of two weeks, no doubt. The chair is almost ready, and the watercolor is getting more and more beautiful.” In fine condition, with uniform toning. Coquelin was an avid art collector and close friend of Larsson, and had commissioned Larsson to paint multiple pictures for him since the 1880s; in 1884, the artist had even done a small portrait of Coquelin as a gift. A rare letter with wonderful association to both his artwork and his famous friend. RR Auction COA.
